Children's Mental Health

Safe4Me - provides educators, service providers and parents with information and resources to help educate, guide and support children and young people to keep safe.

  • Childline is a safe, confidential place for children with no one else to turn to. Whatever your worry, whenever you need help, you can contact Childline 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year on 0800 1111 or through the one-to-one chat on their website.

    Childline has a huge online community where you can get support from other children on message boards, as well as resources to help you through any issue you are concerned about.

The Children’s Commissioner’s Help at Hand team can offer free support, advice, and information if you are:

  • in care
  • leaving care
  • living away from home
  • working with children’s services

This is to help you with any challenges you are experiencing. You can call the team for free on 0800 528 0731 or find more information on the Children’s Commissioner’s website.

  • Always Heard provides advice and advocacy for looked after children, care leavers and young people on the edge of care from 0 to 25 years old. If you need advice or advocacy services, you can get in touch for free on 0808 800 5792. Always Heard is provided through Coram Voice, and funded by the Department for Education.
  • The Children’s Wellbeing Support Service provides early intervention and support for parents of children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs which can present in a similar way to Autism, Attention Deficit Disorder, Attachment Disorder, anxiety and poor emotional wellbeing. Referrals to this service have to be made by a health professional such as your GP. We have attached a copy of the referral form to the GP's copy of this letter. Please can you speak to your GP and ask them to complete the form and refer to the service.

    ChatHealth confidential text messaging service with a school nurse to support ages 11–19 in Hampshire on 07507332160 (Mon-Fri 8.30am-4.30pm excluding bank holidays)

    Kooth is a free, anonymous online counselling and emotional wellbeing support service for young people aged 11–25 years in Hampshire

    Shout provides free, confidential, 24/7 text messaging support for anyone struggling to cope. Text HANTS to 85258t ages 11–19 in Hampshire on 07507 332160 (Mon-Fri 8:30am-4.30pm excluding bank holidays)

    Health for Kids and Health for Teens provide age-appropriate information and links to local support on keeping your body and mind healthy. These sites would also be useful for parents, and Health for Kids has a specific parents section

    Self Harm Support Hub provides information and peer support for parents/carers supporting a child or young person who self-harms

    Free monthly parent and carer sessions are run by Hampshire Parent & Carer Network, and supported by Hampshire CAMHS, in-person (across Hampshire districts) and on Zoom. For further information please contact: marybaldwin@hpcn.org.uk

This is useful for parents to reflect on what they can do to help their children process and manage the huge range of emotions we have as humans.
