Science - Animals!

This week in Oak Class we have been learning about animals. We had a visit from 2 of Miss Baker's guinea pigs. They were in Oak Class for the day and we all got the chance to hold them.

Year R Teddy Bear's Picnic

Southsea Trip (Lifeboat Station and Artwork on the Beach)

Butterflies!

We have watched them grow from tiny caterpillars into beautiful butterflies. We released them just before half term, although some of them were so friendly and didn't want to leave us!

Health and Wellbeing Week!

Last week (16th-20th May) was health and wellbeing week at St Mary's. Oak Class had lots of fun taking part in many different activities including First Aid training, making smoothies, Yoga and Dementia Awareness. It was a different week but we learnt lots of new skills and we were all very relaxed by the end of it!

Last week Oak Class had a very exciting delivery of some new balance bikes!

Year R had lots of fun trying them out on the big playground and we talked about why it was important to wear helmets when using them.

DINOSAUR DAY! 'Life Long Ago' Workshop, Volcano Biscuits and Exploding Vocano Science Experiments!

Making (and eating!) pancakes and our pancake race!

Dinosaur Fossils!!

We have been looking at different types of dinosaur fossils and discussing how they look. We then designed our own fossils and made them using clay. It was quite tricky but lots of fun!

Last half term Year 1 and 2 had a very exciting visit from Hampshire Fire and Rescue. We got to do lots of fun activities including a game about road safety. The best part of the morning was being fireman for a little while - trying on the protective clothes, going in the fire engine and tackling a 'fire!'

This term our topic is 'Marvellous Me!'

We have been doing lots of exploring of our new environment and are becoming very good at talking about our learning during Activity Time. We have been making new friends and using our fantastic new canopy outside. Here are a few photos showing some of the fun things we get up to in Oak Class...

Autumn Term 2015
Autumn Term 2015

Welcome to Oak Class!

This term is going to be totally awesome! Our topic is 'Growing' and we'll be learning about all sorts of exciting plants in the world around us. We started the term with a fantastic visit to Alice Holt for our English topic- 'Stories Set In Imaginary Worlds' and found all sorts of things including dragons' teeth, fairy blankets, magic wands and a wizard's staff!

We can't wait to continue on our fascinating learning journey!
