Love, Respect, Belong

Pupil Voice

At St. Mary’s, the pupils are at the heart of all we do. We have a range of pupil voice teams, led by our Year 6’s. These pupil voice teams draw together our values of Love, Respect and Belong, with some, such as Pupil Council, having representatives from all year groups.

The Head Pupils work closely with Mrs. Ayres on a focus project for the year. The ideas for this project form part of their interview for the role, where they need to be able to explain and detail their idea. Here is the link to our previous Head Pupil’s Podcast from 2021-2022:

The Pupil Council work on specific aspects of the School Development Plan, and have representatives from each year group. Year 6 are the Pupil Council leaders. These younger representatives from Year 1-5 have to put themselves forward, and deliver a speech explaining why they would be suitable to sit on the Pupil Council. Their year group then votes for their representatives for the year.

The Church Council work with the Church Council from other church schools in Alton, and have a fundraising/ charity focus each term. They will also deliver a Collective Worship each term.

The Equality and Rights Advocates (EARA) are a new and exciting role this year. These children will focus on diversity, equality and ensures everybody's rights are protected and respected at all times.

The Eco-warriors work hard to ensure our school is sustainable as possible. Last year we achieved the status of ‘Eco School’ due to all our hard work. Year 6 are the eco-warrior leaders and support the younger children with this role.
